What the money does
Education
£11 pays the salary of a full time teacher for a month Our Fund supports teacher’s salaries inside the pre-schools & orphanages that we support, or pays for children to attend local state schools. We regularly get new requests to support children’s education.
Clothing
£18 buys a new set of clothes for an orphan
Typically the orphans have two sets of cotton clothes, two shirts, two longyis, underclothes and trainers. As the children are constantly growing their clothes have to be replaced regularly
Food
£30 is the cost of rice for a child for a year
Rice is the children’s staple diet, the cost has tripled and the quality can often be poor
Healthcare
£50 can usually cover the cost of medication for one child for one course of treatment
Many of the orphans need ongoing courses of medication and ‘prescription’ drugs are expensive and in short supply
Care & Shelter
£225 is the forecast 2008 cost for an orphan
The orphanages provide total care, as well as education, but inflation is rife and the cost rises every year
How you can Help
Becoming a Friend of the Burma Children’s Fund – by undertaking or organising an activity to raise funds for the charity
Becoming a Supporter of the Burma Children’s Fund by making a donation, using the gift form **
Becoming a Sponsor of the Burma Children’s Fund by getting your business/organisation to support the fund with donations, goods or services.
Subscribing to the Fund – You can make single gifts to the fund or make regular donations by standing order by using the gift form **
Gift Aid – Because the fund operates under charitable legislation tax payers can increase the value of their contribution by gift aiding their donations. This currently increases their value by 28% [but this is due to fall to 25%in 2008 under planned changes to the tax regime]
Leaving a Legacy – This is a wonderful way to help the children by using your estate to help their future. If you wish to consider leaving a legacy in your Will, to the children in Burma please contact the Chairman via our e-mail (see ‘Contact Us’)
Running a Fund Raising Event – We are always delighted when any of our supporters put on a local fund raising event in aid of our charity e.g. a coffee morning, a table top sale, or a ‘Birthday donation’
